Jobs
Went to careers fairs yesterday and today. Every single bit of job propaganda has the statement, "Minimum requirement: 2:1" written on it somewhere. Gah. *buries self in duvet* One supersized injection of luck virus and a bucketload each of self confidence and charisma to go please kthxbai.

I'm not even that miserable anymore, just incredibly resigned and bitter about the whole thing. Everything rests on getting to an interview stage where all I have to do is make myself seem like the most amazing candidate in the world. Unfortunately I've only ever passed two job interviews in my life out of about twenty, those being the ones to get my summer placement at Interfleet. On the plus side, if I write that up really well on my CV and wave my fantastic reference from the Maintenance Dept managers around like a mad thing, I might get somewhere. A guy from a transportation department at one of the companies I talked to completely lit up when I mentioned I'd worked at Interfleet over the summer. So that's a small glimmer of hope. :)

In better news, CURAS pubmeet tonight at the Red Bull from 8 if I can summon the energy and will to have a shower and leave the house. In much, much better news, [info]mansunite is seriously awesome and has made me the best wrist-cuff in existance. FACT. *is so lucky*

Oh I didn't see you there! I was right at the end of a little room so was quite out of the way.

That's exactly how I felt about not having a 2:1 and about job applications for the whole of my final year and the whole of the next year too! Makes you wish you'd done an easier degree... Still, if that's all an employer looks at that's their loss and they're prob not the type of people you want to work for anyway. My job had an application form where class of degree was just one of many boxes to fill in, and I think that makes it a lot easier than writing a CV and cover letter when you feel you've got to make up for it somehow. So keep trying! Maybe if it says 2:1 it's worth phoning the HR dept and mentioning your Cambridge Masters (other companies specify "a good degree" so that would def count), although I never tried that... Just keep trying! You don't know they won't want you unless you apply.

Although I can't talk, I've failed to finish my CV to a level that I'm happy with, and I've been struggling with it for over a month!

Also, hooray for [info]mansunite!

Thanks! I'm trying to get a huge list of companies together then update my CV and start applying. Really need to get my act together on this, other people have already started getting interviews. :S Best of luck with your CV btw! Did you finish it this weekend?

I feel your pain. Job-searching is horrible. I would expect that a 2.2. or a 3rd from Cambridge is worth more than a 2.1 from, say, Teeside though, so it would still be worth making enquiries about positions.
